The recent long weekend has provided most of us with the opportunity to go on a short holiday or getaway with family and loved ones. Traveling and experiencing new culture and environment also means we must indulge in some of the delicious local delicacies while we are there. It is not too hard then to find ourselves making indulgent choices like eating a gelato every day while in Italy or having delicious but often oily Padang food for lunch while you are in Indonesia. After all, food enhances our experience and makes these trips memorable.
But once you are back at home, you begin to realise some changes. Perhaps your work pants feel a little tight come Monday morning. Or maybe you are starting to breakout into acne from all the sugar, dairy and oily food you had taken while on holiday. It is time to reset your diet by nourishing yourself with simple, light meals or non-dairy smoothie to fuel your day.
I have always been a fan of Spoon Health’s Organic Quinoa Powder and consume it on a daily basis in my smoothies. Recently though, I have discovered a combination that not only tastes delicious but provides a great “pick me up” in the morning that could work as a coffee replacement for those who are trying to cut their caffeine intake yet still need some help to get them through the morning. The combination of Spoon Health’s Organic Gelatinized Maca Powder, raw cacao powder and raw honey provides ample energy to rev up your morning. Maca contains no caffeine and when you choose Spoon Health’s brand of Gelatinized Maca, you are guaranteed a pure form of Maca that does not contain any processed sugar or any other pharmaceutical enhancers. Since it boosts energy in your body in a balanced and sustained manner, you can be assured that it will never place unnecessary stress on your adrenal glands, unlike when you’re consuming a cup of double shot espresso! Adding seeds and nuts provides some protein in the smoothie while also giving additional nutrients. I have added in an Omega 3-6-9 blend oil in this recipe but if you don’t have any, substituting with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil will provide adequate healthy fats for this smoothie.
I would recommend blending this smoothie in the morning and consuming it as a breakfast replacement. This recipe makes a slightly thicker smoothie as that is how I usually like to consume mine. Just add more water before blending if you would like it to be a little less thick.
